Charlie Gordon, a floor sweeper born with an unusually low IQ, has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that doctors hope will increase his intelligence - a procedure that has been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.
All Charlie wants is to be smart and have friends, but the treatment turns him into a genius.
Then Algernon begins to fade.
What will become of Charlie?

Probably the greatest American sci-fi novella.
Which is to say: this could hardly have happened if it wasn’t American.
Both its strength, and its weakness.

One of my favs… There are a bunch of these already on the site, so it will probably get nuked as duplicate.
Anyway, I like the version narrated by Jeff Woodman much better than the Adam Sims one, he really seems to get it. If you’re going to (re)read, make sure you evaluate both versions before you choose one.

Love this story, many times mentioned by me in everyday context!

Wonderful, wonderful book. Sure it’s relatively old but by no means dated.

Check out the BBC dramatised version

hmm. I wish people would start posting their sources. This doesn’t exist on Audible in 126k and Audible’s 126k files are all 44.1khz, not 22.05. Clearly some re-encoding has been done here and all it’s done is increase the filesize.

The weird thing is that this is of course based on a real life person. It’s so sad but very well written. I had to read this in high school in the 80’s so thank you for the upload

@iTzNiKo, thanks for your feedback. I create all my torrents directly. I keep the bitrate of the source and only process the audio to remove DRM. I hope you enjoy the content.
