Publisher’s Summary
A chilling, eye-opening story of marriage and attempted murder, revealing the truth about a case that made headlines around the world.
On Easter Sunday 2015, experienced skydiver Victoria Cilliers undertook a parachute jump, a gift from her husband, British Army Sergeant Emile Cilliers. Her parachutes failed to open, and she plummeted 4,000 feet to the ground, sustaining life-threatening injuries. Miraculously, she survived.
Then the police arrived at her door.
Someone had tampered with her parachute, and they suspected Emile.
In I Survived, Victoria describes how she fell for Emile and how the charming man she thought she knew gradually revealed a darker side, chipping away at her self-worth until she found it impossible to sift truth from lies.
Can she really believe that her husband - the father of their two young children - tried to kill her?
As more shocking revelations come to light and she has to face his trial and relentless media scrutiny, she struggles to come to terms with the past.
Even a guilty verdict does not free her because Emile is not ready to let her go.
Powerful and honest, I Survived is the story of a woman who was put through hell and yet found the strength to forge a new life for herself and her children.

I recall hearing about this in the news. Also, I think the story was covered in a TV show, perhaps “I Shouldn’t Be Alive”, or some similar show. Anyone know which show it may have been?
Any other true crime stories are most welcome.
Thanks possumisdead.
PS. My niece once has a boy friend who was exremely controlling. It started with him taking her credit card from her purse and hiding it. When she eventually found it in her underwear draw he said she must have hidden it herself. This type of behaviour was repeated a few times until he finally told her he was trying to teach her to be more thrifty with her money. Then he started hiding her car keys and purse. He next started trying to convince her that they should move to another city, claiming better work prospects as the reason.
Finally he claimed it was for her own good stating she had to get away from her family because they were a bad influence on her. She woke up to what type of person he was when he started accusing her parents of all sorts of things, from manipulating her to abusing her as a child. The relationship ended when she tossed all his belonging out the front door, just like in a movie. Thankfully he wasn’t the violent type, and gave up.
I wonder how many more young women he treated this way.
Is there a name phycoligists have for this type of personality?

Some spouses wisely maintain a separate bank account in the event of necessity/emergency.
Most arguments tend to be over money, but with that kind of pathological controlling behaviour, it’s really on another level. Money is the means by which they seek to control, in every other area.
